#6b in the problem set is confusing me
ReplyDeletei agree with Jamie..i think the thing that is bothering me is that the points aren't whole numbers right?
ReplyDeleteHow do you do number 21 on page 373? Do you do it .04/8000+350? I'm confused.
ReplyDeleteHere is problem #21:
ReplyDeleteA total of $8000 is invested in two funds, paying 4% and 5% annual interest. The combined annual interest is $350. How much of the $8,000 is invested in each fund?
Think about what you DON'T KNOW. How much is invested in each fund, right? Put another way, you don't know how much money is invested at 4% (aka .04) and how much is invested at 5% (aka .05).
So, you could DEFINE the following VARIABLES:
x is the amount of money invested at 4%
y is the amount of money invested at 5%
Before you read on... STOP!!! Can you figure out the relationships (aka equations) that you can set up for x and y?
Think about it.. 1) x and y sum to something, right? 2) And how does the total interest amount get calculated. Between 1) and 2)... hmmm that's two equations... what do we call THAT??!!
lmk if this helped...
whats the hw again?
