  2. Rate of change is SLOPE!! It's quantified as the change in the y-variable (vertical change) over the change in the x-variable (horizontal change). In a "real life" problem, the x and y variables are named, as in good old #20.

You are trying to answer WHAT (numerator) is changing "per" WHAT (denominator), based on the difference between the x's and y's (y-sub2 - y-sub1 over x-sub2 - x-sub1, remember?). For example, the flow of water could be graphed and measured as gallons per minute, given that "gallons" was the y-variable and "minutes" was the x-variable... ca-peesh?

Check out Unit 4 on mathchamber (watch the section 4.4 video tutors and re-read the 2nd page of Prob Set 4A)... I'll bet you figure some things out (and maybe ask more questions, too!).

lmk if this helped... Mr, C,

  4. Kate... see MathChamber Unit 7 for the up-to-date assignment. You should print out the two worksheets and try to do them on your own... Mr. C
